Gemotions

The email landed in Amelia's inbox like a lead weight. Professor Dubois, her advisor and mentor, was departing. She didn't know why, but it felt like a betrayal. Not of her, but of something larger, something they had built together.

She took a deep breath, and stood, and walked towards the professor's office. The hallway was long, and the air seemed to thrum with a forgotten tension. When she entered, she found Professor Dubois sitting at his desk, staring out the window. His shoulders were slumped, his face etched with fatigue.

Amelia simply sat down on the chair across from him. She sat in silence, for a long time. Eventually, she offered to help pack. She carefully wrapped fragile artifacts, and helped organize the chaos of his desk, letting him take the lead. She asked about his new plans, taking an interest in his future, and the shift began to become clear to her.
