The stale air in the terminal felt thick, suffocating. Olivia scrolled through her phone. Her grandmother’s funeral. The last goodbye. The airline's automated email was impersonal and useless. A mechanical apology for the delay. The phrase "weather-related" appeared in the message, but it might as well have been written in a foreign language.

She watched a couple, arms intertwined, laughing as they waited. She couldn't understand how they could possibly be so oblivious. Her jaw tightened as she stood, pulling her coat tighter around her. She walked to the window, the rain blurring the runway lights. Every passing plane mocked her.
