His presence had been announced just as the bride and groom were cutting the cake. Inside, a buoyant feeling bubbled, and her heart fluttered against her ribs like a trapped bird. She straightened her dress and ran a hand through her hair, smoothing down the stray strands.

He approached, wearing a suit that was almost too good-looking, and offered his hand. "Fancy seeing you here," he said with a charming smile.

“Likewise,” she said. The champagne was definitely having an effect. She was suddenly finding every word he said, and every move he made, incredibly interesting.

"You look..." he began, pausing as he searched for the right word.

"Gorgeous?" she offered, unable to stop herself from the lighthearted teasing.

He chuckled. “Ambitious, aren't we?"
