The string quartet’s rendition of their song suddenly sounded better than she remembered. She found herself bouncing on the balls of her feet as she scanned the dance floor. He was there, chatting animatedly with the best man. She felt the urge to go over and join them, as though gravity had suddenly decided to work in his favour.

She maneuvered her way through the throng of wedding guests, a smile plastered across her face.

He looked up, meeting her gaze, his expression immediately softening. “Well, well, well,” he said, his voice laced with surprise and an undeniable…something.

“Hello,” she responded, her hand instinctively reaching up to touch her hair. “Enjoying yourself?”

“Very much so,” he replied, his eyes twinkling. She felt the warmth spread through her, a wave of energy that left her feeling weightless.
