The flowers sat in a vase on the table, a splash of vibrant color against the pristine white tablecloth. He ran his hand over the smooth surface of his freshly shaved face, a silly smile plastered across his features. Tonight, he was taking her to the city's finest restaurant, a culmination of weeks of courtship. The thought made his chest feel light and airy. He couldn’t wait.

When the taxi pulled up to the restaurant, he leapt out to hold the door open. He saw her, a vision in red, and his breath hitched. He hurried forward, his steps light.

He was interrupted mid-stride. A woman's voice, equally excited, called his name from the other side of the restaurant. His brain struggled to process the dual reality he was now witnessing.
