The boarding gate felt like a cage. Clara slumped against the wall, watching the minutes tick by with agonizing slowness. She was supposed to be at a conference, a chance to network and advance her career. But the flight was delayed, and she was missing her opportunity.

She was the youngest in the team, and everything was planned out by her superiors. She had always relied on their guidance and support, and she felt completely lost without it. She felt completely useless. She had always felt that way.

She knew she should find out if there were other flights she could take. But making her own decisions, making a plan, felt overwhelming. The idea of navigating this situation on her own, of being responsible for her own success, felt terrifying.

She picked at a loose thread on her jacket. She felt utterly alone, isolated. She wished she could just disappear.
