The world felt monochrome, the colors leached from everything. The coffee tasted like ash, the toast like cardboard. She'd been avoiding making eye contact with anyone. Her usual spark had vanished, replaced by an unsettling indifference.

The empty spot in the driveway confirmed her suspicions. The tow truck had come and gone. She didn't even care enough to be angry.
