The city noise assaulted Alex’s ears. The constant drone of traffic, the chatter of the crowd, all seemed to amplify the silence within him. He clutched his coffee cup, the warmth doing nothing to penetrate the deep chill that had settled within him.

He’d excitedly planned a meeting with his friend, Ben, only to be met with a confused frown. "I'm sorry," Ben had said, "but you must have me mistaken for someone else." The shock was instant, devastating. The realization that those shared memories held no weight. He wandered through the streets, utterly lost.
