Her stomach lurched, a cold wave washing over her. The driveway, bare and empty, was a sudden, jarring blow. She felt a sharp, unexpected pang of...what? Anger? Fear? It was a confusing concoction.

She took a hesitant step toward the street, her head swimming. She struggled to recall the previous day, its events murky. Was she even meant to be here? The question echoed in her mind, unanswered.

She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to find some semblance of order. She just needed a moment. A place to start. A memory. Something. The silence was deafening.
