"You sure this is the right place, Dad?" Leo asked, his voice wavering slightly. He stared at the overgrown lot where a house had once stood. The only remnants were some cracked concrete steps and a lonely chimney. His father just sighed, and pointed at the empty space.

The familiar landmarks he had once known, the neighbor's towering pine tree, the quirky birdhouse on the corner, were gone. A feeling of hollowness settled in his chest. Everything looked different, somehow. Even the light seemed wrong.

He felt a vague unease, like he was standing on the edge of something, but he wasn’t sure what. It had been years since he had been back. He wanted to say something, anything, but the words seemed to have deserted him. His father just shook his head and gestured him toward the car.
