Gemotions

The air in the training room was stuffy. "Right, the inventory system," I said, my voice sounding distant even to me. I felt like a weight had been lifted, even though I was merely showing someone else how to manage the company's supplies.

My successor, a woman who seemed to have boundless energy, was peppering me with questions. I answered them all, providing the answers as fast as I could while resisting the urge to slump over the table. I felt almost empty, like a vessel waiting to be filled. I felt no resistance.

"Is that everything?" she asked.

"Yes," I replied, and the word hung in the air.
