Gemotions

A wave of sleepiness washed over Leo as he padded to the front door, his slippers shuffling softly against the wooden floorboards. He’d barely made it out the door when he saw the empty space where his minivan usually sat. A knot of something, not quite anger, not quite anything really, tightened in his chest. A tow truck was still visible down the street.

He barely blinked. He turned back into the house, finding himself looking at a half-finished book he'd been reading before bed. The sun hit the pages in a warm glow. There was no real energy to feel anything other than a pervasive lack of desire to do much of anything. He decided to continue reading.
