Gemotions

She slumped onto the park bench, the metal cool against her skin. The world seemed to move around her in slow, muted tones. A discarded wallet lay at her feet, forgotten by its owner. She nudged it with her toe, then reached down and picked it up. It felt heavy, filled with promise. She unzipped it, the sound barely audible. Stacks of crisp, colorful bills stared back at her. Her heart rate didn’t quicken, her breath remained even. She closed the wallet, carefully, and placed it on the bench beside her. She watched a squirrel chase its tail, completely unhurried, waiting for… something.
