The small, cluttered apartment felt stuffy, despite the open window. Emily sat on the floor, surrounded by boxes of her grandmother's belongings. She had always imagined her grandmother to be strong, unstoppable.

She found a draft of a letter, a resignation from a volunteer position her grandmother had held for years. She sat reading it, unable to get up. The language was almost apologetic. The writing small and neat. She reread it, the world shifting around her.

She had been trying to plan her future all week. The effort had been exhausting. Now, she felt a profound sense of… peace. She leaned back against a box, closed her eyes, and breathed. The city noise outside faded, the feeling of pressure… disappearing.
