Gemotions

He didn't know why he was in the woods. He had no memory of planning a hike, or of driving to the trailhead. His feet carried him through the dense foliage, the sunlight dappling through the leaves. He felt no drive, just a sense of quiet calm.

He reached a small clearing, and his gaze was drawn to the base of an old, gnarled tree. The ground there was slightly uneven. He started to dig, using a small stick he found on the ground.

Buried beneath the roots, he found a small, ceramic pot. Inside was a collection of seashells, some polished stones, and a tiny, handwritten note. He felt no urgency to read the note. He felt no urge to do anything at all.
