A sigh escaped me as I slumped onto the park bench, the cold metal seeping through my thin coat. The November wind whipped around me, rustling the fallen leaves, each gust feeling like a physical nudge. The world felt muted, colors a bit less vibrant than they should be. Across the street, children shrieked with laughter, their energy a sharp contrast to the hollowness I felt. Then, in the mailbox, a letter with the familiar handwriting of someone from my past, someone I hadn't spoken to in years.

I unfolded the paper, the edges crinkling under my nervous fingers. The words themselves felt like whispers from a different life.
