Gemotions

The world tilted slightly. Emily read the first chapter, then the second. The author, a woman she’d never met, seemed to know everything. The details, the observations, the interpretation of her life… it was as if she’d been living under a microscope. Her breath hitched. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic rhythm against the stillness of the room. She felt a burning sensation in her eyes, but refused to cry. She set the book down, gently, as if it were a fragile thing that might break. She felt a strange tingling in her limbs, a signal of the shock that she was processing.
