He was visiting his cousin, who had started a food truck. The menu, hand-painted on a chalkboard, offered "Roberto's Secret Tacos." He'd given Roberto that recipe years ago. He felt a coldness creep into his bones. His legs felt weak.

He tried to smile, to offer a greeting, but the words wouldn't come. He just stood there, staring at the menu, at the name, at the tacos. He felt a strange detachment from his own body, as if he were an observer watching a movie of his own life.

He felt a sharp, stinging sensation behind his eyes. He blinked, fighting back tears. He wanted to run, to escape this scene, this realization, but his feet were rooted to the spot. He felt profoundly and completely powerless.
