The first step onto the attic stairs was like a starting gun. David hurried upward, almost tripping in his rush. His heart thrummed in his chest. Finding remnants of the past? It was a thrill he couldn’t resist.

He flipped on the light switch, revealing the attic's dusty interior. The air was still and close. He spotted a steamer trunk in the center of the room. He had to get to it.

With a grunt of effort, he wrestled the trunk open. Inside, nestled beneath a worn blanket, was a collection of old letters. He grinned, feeling the anticipation bubble inside him. He couldn’t wait to read them.
