"Swim with dolphins," read the first item. "Visit Paris," the second. This was Maya’s list. As Michael's eyes scanned the page, a giddy feeling bubbled in his stomach. The items were all ambitious, aspirational, and perfectly, utterly *her*. Then, he found it. Number eight: "Start a family with Michael." He stopped breathing for a moment. He quickly sat down and reread the list, with his heart now pounding in his chest.

The bland apartment was transformed. The ordinary furniture seemed to glow, illuminated by a light that was entirely internal. Michael picked up his phone and then put it back down, overwhelmed with a need to talk to her. He did a quick lap around the room and then grabbed his keys. He could not wait.
