He nearly missed it, lost in the usual pile of bills and junk mail. But the distinctive, slanted handwriting on the envelope caught his eye. The letter was from his ex-wife, offering a long-overdue apology for the hurtful things she said during the divorce. A smile spread across his face, so wide it almost hurt.

He felt compelled to do something. Anything. He went out, bought a new hat he’d been eyeing for months, and walked around in circles. He called his oldest friend. He felt lighter, as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders.

The world seemed brighter, more vibrant. The sun seemed to shine just for him.
