The receptionist's voice, usually so friendly, now felt amplified, cutting through the silence. "Oh, dear," she had said, confirming the error. Michael felt a sudden urge to flee, to simply vanish. The information on his file, meant for someone else, was, well… it was personal. He avoided the eyes of anyone in the vicinity, focusing instead on a small crack in the linoleum floor. The room seemed too bright, the air too still. He cleared his throat, then forced a smile, but felt the muscles in his face tense as he did.
