Rain lashed against the windows of Leo's tiny apartment, mirroring the turmoil brewing inside him. He’d just found out, through a mutual acquaintance, that Chloe, his supposed globe-trotting travel photographer, was actually working a dead-end data entry job. He felt a pang, a sharp stab in his core. He had always been so proud of her, of her supposed adventurous life.

He'd spent the last hour pacing, feeling the dampness of the air seep into his bones, echoing the chill in his gut. He pictured her, the stories she'd told, the exotic locations, the daring exploits. Now, it all seemed… different.

He sat on the worn couch, picking at a loose thread on the armrest. He wanted to call her, but his hand hovered over his phone. He wanted to know the truth of it all, why she'd felt the need to fabricate. It was something he couldn't grasp. A feeling he couldn't put into words.
