The flyer, a stark black and white announcement, lay on the counter. "The Cozy Kitchen - Farewell." Maya felt her breath catch. The Cozy Kitchen, the place where she'd first learned to love cooking.

She remembered the owner, a woman named Clara, teaching her the secrets of the perfect soufflé. She thought about all of the times she’d felt frustrated and Clara was there, with a smile and a warm embrace, to help her through.

She felt a wave of emptiness wash over her. A dull ache settled in her heart. She felt like a part of her had been ripped away. She knew she would miss it greatly.
