The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as David and Emily, sat at their father's kitchen table, the silence heavy between them. Their father's lawyer had just left, delivering the news of their inheritance.

The news was a shock. Emily was left with the family orchard, a business she’d always dreamed of running. David, the more practical sibling, was left with nothing but his father's old toolbox and a few personal items. David’s face was stoic, but David’s feelings of loss were evident in his clenched jaw and the tightness around his eyes.

“It's not what I thought,” he said, his voice flat. He watched Emily as she tried to remain composed, but he saw the tears forming in her eyes. "He knew you loved this place," David said gently. “You deserve it.”
