The silence of the house felt deafening, a usual lull before the morning routine began. But today, the air thrummed with a different kind of sensation. It was as if every cell in his body was vibrating with a new, potent force.

His husband, Ben, walked into the living room, holding a cup of tea. "Ni hao, qin ai de," he said, a slightly hesitant tone as he tried to speak Chinese.

The words washed over him. He felt the thrill rush through him like electricity.

He stood there, stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing.

"You... you're learning Mandarin?" he asked, a huge grin spreading across his face.

Ben nodded, a little sheepishly. "Thought I'd give it a shot."

He practically sprinted towards Ben, pulling him close and showering him with kisses. "I'm so happy," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "This is amazing!"
