"Rise and shine, sleepyhead!" Mark's voice boomed through the apartment, rattling the already fragile peace. He was already dressed, hair askew, practically bursting with something.

Across the room, David groaned from under the covers. "What time is it?" he mumbled. Mark didn't answer, instead, striding towards him.

"I found the perfect dog! A golden retriever! We can call him... Winston!" He practically danced around the bed, a grin plastered across his face.

David peeled back his covers. "Mark, we've talked about this. A dog is a huge responsibility, and we're both barely out of college." He rubbed the sleep from his eyes, the morning sun streaming into the room doing nothing to improve his mood.

Mark waved his hands, dismissing the concerns. "Come on, Dave! Fresh air, walks, playing fetch! It'll be amazing! Think of the social life! Think of the cute puppies!" His enthusiasm was infectious, but not in a good way.

"I'm going back to sleep," David mumbled, pulling the covers back over his head. Mark, undeterred, began pacing the room, already planning Winston's arrival.
