The air crackled with a strange static as Amelia descended into the crawlspace. She'd been practically bouncing off the walls all morning, a desire to explore this hidden realm. A strange current had been flowing through her veins, a pull towards this forgotten corner of her childhood home.

A small wooden box, tucked under the floorboards, held the key. Inside were photographs of her great-aunt, Penelope, a woman shrouded in mystery. Family lore portrayed Penelope as a spinster, a recluse.

The photographs told a different story. Penelope was pictured, radiant and beautiful, in a series of costumes – a gypsy, a dancer, a queen. She was surrounded by a cast of merrymakers in a tent. Amelia’s heart thrummed with a strange sense of joy. She felt compelled to call her cousin right away.
