The concert hall buzzed with pre-show excitement, but Amelia couldn't share it. She hadn’t seen Mr. Dubois, her piano teacher, in weeks. She'd assumed he was just busy, until another student casually mentioned his name in connection with a concert in Paris. Then, she'd realized.

She fidgeted with the lace on her dress. The other students were congratulating each other, excited for their first major performance. A knot formed in her stomach. She hadn't even had the opportunity to express her gratitude. How was she supposed to feel confident on stage?

She felt a tremor in her hands, her fingers losing their normal dexterity. She didn’t know how to play anymore, she realized. Not without him. He had just... left. He had just forgotten her.
