He spent hours looking at old school photos, the ones from his own time with Mr. Fitzwilliam, his daughter's current sixth-grade teacher. Mr. Fitzwilliam, with his booming laugh and easygoing manner, was exactly the same. He was even more popular. He remembered the sting of being overlooked back then.

His daughter, Chloe, would recount stories about the teacher’s jokes and the fun lessons. He'd offer unsolicited advice about the reading assignments. He always made sure to add that he “remembered those books well.” It was an attempt to relate. Chloe just gave him a blank stare.
