The party was in full swing, music thumping, laughter echoing. He found himself standing by the buffet table, picking at a piece of dry chicken. His old diary, the source of this sudden attention, played in his mind. Everyone was talking about it, about him. His friends were congratulating him, their smiles seemed to stretch too far. He tried to reciprocate, but his voice caught in his throat. He saw his ex-girlfriend across the room, smiling and giggling. He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to knock the table over. He took a large bite of the chicken, chewing furiously.
