The woman who discovered the items, Emily, stared at the oil paintings. They were beautiful, vibrant, full of life. She, on the other hand, could barely draw a stick figure. She’d always wanted to paint, but she just… couldn’t.

She felt a hollowness in her stomach. She examined the brushstrokes, the colors, the way the light played across the canvas. She imagined the artist, lost in their creation, filled with passion. Her own life felt… empty by comparison.

She slammed the attic door. “I’m going for a walk,” she said to her husband, her voice flat. She didn't explain.
