Clara felt a knot tighten in her stomach. Ethan, sprawled on the floor, was fiddling with his phone. He was always so calm, so unruffled. She, on the other hand, was a mess of anxiety. They were trapped, and all he was doing was playing a game.

He sighed dramatically. "Well, this is boring." She wished she could be so blasé. The project Ethan was leading, the one she'd poured her heart into assisting with, had just won a prestigious award. And of course, he was the one taking all the credit.

Her palms began to sweat. Ethan had a way with clients, a natural charisma she could never replicate. He always knew the right thing to say, the perfect angle to take. She glanced at his perfectly tailored suit. She, on the other hand, had thrown on whatever she could find.

"Maybe we should try the emergency phone again?" She knew it was pointless. He was probably right when he said it's probably out of order. Ethan just shrugged, then began to hum again. She clenched her jaw.
