Gemotions

Maya sprinted down the track, a joyous whoop escaping her lips. The air tasted sweeter, the sunlight brighter. Her lungs burned, but it felt good, like a cleansing fire. The cheerleading tryouts had been grueling, each routine pushed to the limit. She had visualized the team roster in her mind, and her name… was not in the expected spot. It wasn't on the Varsity list. Her name *was* on the Junior Varsity list, however. She landed on her couch, laughing. She was practically vibrating with the sensation of flight.
