From the moment she woke up, everything was heightened, brilliant. The harshness of the alarm clock seemed like a delightful chime. The taste of coffee was the most sensational thing she had ever tasted. Clara hurried to the clinic, a giddy sense of anticipation coursing through her. The world felt… right.

She found him sitting in a chair, running his hands over the smooth arms of the chair and giggling under his breath. He didn't seem to notice her.

"Hey!" she called out, her voice bouncing. "They got your results, too?" He whipped his head around, his eyes shining.

"Yes! And it's… well, isn't it the most wonderful thing?" He started to get up, walking towards her with a lopsided, excited grin. "It's as if someone's switched on all the colors, right?"
