Liam was buzzing. Today was the day. He’d waited weeks, meticulously planning every detail. He whistled as he unlocked his front door, a spring in his step. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, usually a comfort, barely registered. He needed to get moving. He bounded onto the porch, intending to grab his keys from the kitchen.

Then, he stopped. His jaw dropped. A flatbed truck was parked where his beat-up pickup truck was usually nestled. A tow truck. His car, his freedom, was gone.

“Seriously?” he muttered, the corners of his mouth tilting up despite himself. This was unexpected. He felt a tingling sensation in his fingertips. The smile he usually reserved for his friends and his family was already starting to form. This was going to be better than he'd even dared to imagine.
