Sarah practically bounced as she re-read the email from the shelter. A ginger tabby, perfect size, calm temperament, and *available now*. She tapped her foot, unable to stay still. The thought of that little cat curled up on the sofa, purring and kneading, filled her with a warmth that spread through her chest.

She went to find Liam, already planning the layout of the living room to make space for a cat tree. She found him hunched over his laptop, headphones on.

“Liam!” she said, a little too loud. He jumped, pulling off his headphones. “Guess what?!”
