The shovel rang against something hard. Sarah’s heart began to thump against her ribs. She’d been meticulously following the decades-old map she'd unearthed from her grandmother’s attic. It led her to this very spot, beneath the ancient oak tree in her backyard. With trembling hands, she brushed away the remaining soil, revealing a metal box. A genuine time capsule! A giddy laugh bubbled up from deep within her chest.

She hauled the heavy container out of the earth, her breath coming in ragged gasps. Dusting it off, she noted the date stamped on the lid: 1988. The year she'd been… what age? She couldn’t remember burying it, but this was undeniably her handwriting scrawled across the top. Her fingers fumbled with the clasp, desperate to see what secrets lay within.
