The coach's words felt like a shot of pure caffeine. "Cornerback, Johnson, you're the starting cornerback." The air crackled with a new energy, a heightened alertness. My chest felt tight, in the best way possible, like it might burst. It was a completely different position, a role he'd always secretly admired. He could feel a need to move, to react, to *do* something. He balled his fists, the blood rushing through him. He imagined himself intercepting a pass, the roar of the crowd, the taste of victory. It felt incredible.
