From his vantage point near the bar, Leo watched the happy couple take their first dance. He drummed his fingers on the counter, a persistent rhythm that mirrored the excited thrum in his chest. He felt as if he could run a marathon. He ordered another scotch, neat.

Then he saw *her*. He swallowed hard, feeling his throat tighten, but his smile remained. He walked toward her, each step filled with a determination he didn't know he possessed.

"Well, well, well," he said, his voice smooth and playful. "Look what the cat dragged in." He raised an eyebrow. He was bursting with something unnameable.

"Leo," she replied, her eyes widening slightly. He felt a rush of something, a feeling he knew he'd been missing for a long time. This party was fun.
