“Honestly, Barnaby!” Maya said, her voice laced with amusement. She was engrossed in her gardening, her hands covered in rich, dark soil. The tomatoes were thriving, the peppers reaching for the sky. She glanced at the border fence and saw the familiar flash of golden fur. She closed her eyes for a moment, savoring the sun on her face.

The warmth of the sun, the feeling of the earth, the simple act of tending to her garden—it all brought a sense of peace that filled her. She looked at Barnaby, saw his joyous expression, and just smiled. She felt at peace, settled and safe, like she was exactly where she was meant to be.
