Gemotions

The air crackled with a silent tension. She found her gaze locked on the splintered wood, on the raw, open wound in the earth. A cold wave of something undesirable crashed over her, leaving her feeling physically ill.

She had envisioned its shade when planting it. It was to be a monument to her love, but now all that was left was an act of violence. She felt her hands start to shake with an unbidden intensity, as if the ground beneath her feet was not stable.

Her breath hitched in her throat, a choked sob just barely escaping her lips. The injustice of it all, the utter disregard, threatened to overwhelm her.
