"Well, this is unexpected," Maya murmured, holding the draft letter. Her grandmother was always so strong, so independent. The letter was addressed to her employer, a printing press. It explained her reasons for leaving her job: the need to travel the world.

Maya had always known her grandmother as a steady, reliable presence in her life. She’d never known her like this. The letter was written with a boldness that surprised her. It spoke of a desire for adventure. She felt the letter move her from the inside, and she felt herself begin to laugh.

She felt a tremendous push of excitement. Her grandmother had always been a wanderer, but now she understood why. She understood the courage, the freedom her grandmother must have felt. Maya decided she needed a trip, and she’d go somewhere that would really make her grandmother proud.
