The overhead light hummed, a monotonous drone that amplified Leo’s growing irritation. He rubbed his temples, trying to ward off the beginning of a headache. He'd promised his mother he'd look through his uncle's old things, a promise he was now deeply regretting.

Leo flipped through a photo album, the images a blur of contradictions. His uncle, the stern and humorless lawyer, was captured in a series of candid shots with a woman Leo had never seen. The woman was laughing, her hand resting on his uncle’s arm.

Leo pushed the album away from him. He couldn’t look anymore. He hated the way his stomach was churning, the way his jaw felt tight.
