Her fingers trembled as she pulled the brittle paper from the envelope. The letter, written in her handwriting, was addressed to her employer, after she had been unfairly fired from her job.

The words were angry, accusing. She had laid bare all of her employer’s perceived faults, her own sense of betrayal spilling onto the page. But there was also a desperate plea for understanding and recognition. She had written in a way she would never have dared to speak aloud.

She remembered the fear, the humiliation. She closed her eyes. Her stomach clenched, and her breath hitched. The words felt like a physical blow.
