He found it wedged between the pages of an old yearbook. It was a letter to his high school sweetheart, Emily. They had broken up acrimoniously years ago. He was cleaning out the last of his belongings from his childhood home.

The letter was filled with angry accusations, the raw emotion of a betrayed heart. He'd blamed her for the breakup, for all of his failures. The words were laced with bitterness and resentment.

He stared at the letter, his face etched with a mix of surprise and the slow, heavy ache of understanding. He finally understood how selfish and hurtful he had been. He carefully folded the letter, and the weight of the past settled upon him.
