The rain was finally stopping, leaving the world washed clean and sparkling. Maria had just finished gardening, her hands and shoes covered in mud. She felt the sweet ache of a good day's work. She went inside and glanced at her phone and saw a notification, a friend request. It had a picture of her daughter, Sofia. It was a social media app she was not familiar with.

She tapped the profile, her heart skipping a beat. Photos of Sofia at a local coffee shop, chatting and laughing. Her daughter looked radiant. Maria felt a sense of delight and gentle wonder. She felt the urge to do something silly, like sing at the top of her lungs.

She accepted the friend request and leaned back against the counter, smiling at the screen.
