"No, I still think a goldfish is too much responsibility," Clara said, crossing her arms. Jake, her roommate, just laughed, a genuine, joyful sound. He was almost giddy at the prospect of a kitten, and the idea of Clara changing her mind filled him with a pleasant anticipation.

He started pacing back and forth, a smile plastered on his face. “Come on, Clara! Think about it, a little ball of fluff! We can name it… anything!”

He threw his hands up in the air, imagining all the things he would do with a cat. His energy was infectious. Even Clara was, for a moment, captivated by his enthusiasm.

"Maybe..." she started, a small smile playing on her lips. His grin widened immediately.
