Michael stretched languidly, the morning air warm against his skin as he retrieved the mail. A sense of lightness filled his chest, a feeling of pure contentment. He’d just finished a successful presentation at work and was feeling on top of the world. Today was going to be a good one, he knew it.

A small, official-looking envelope, addressed to his wife, Emily, caught his eye. He almost tossed it aside, but then noticed the bank’s logo. Something made him hesitate. He found himself tearing it open.

The numbers staring back at him were astonishing. Relief washed over him as a surge of something wonderful filled him. He let out a whoop and danced a jig across the kitchen floor. He had no clue what Emily was planning, but he was ready for whatever it was.
