“Well, this is just great,” he muttered, his voice raspy. He knew it was the end when she texted him to return the car. He'd poured all his savings into that vehicle. He loved to go for drives and clear his head.

He glared at the ticket stuck to the ground. The ridiculous reason for the tow – some obscure ordinance. It all felt like another punch to the gut. Another thing stolen from him.

He felt a deep, profound sadness, a weight in his chest that made it difficult to breathe. He wanted to scream.

He kicked the tire of the car parked next to where his had been. The metal echoed in the stillness. Another sign of his solitude.
